Packhorse must be sick of the sight of Brewers as they have already knocked them out of the Macclesfield & District FS Cup, and now they have been instrumental in knocking them off top spot in the Premier Division in a predictably tight game between two sides who know each other very well. Brewer’s talisman Matt Woolley opened the scoring in the first half with a magnificent free kick after Jamie Madden was fouled by Packhorse’s Band and the goal was the home side’s only real chance of the half.
Harry Wheatman levelled in the second half only to see Danny Bailey give the hosts the lead again this time from a header on Jason Knights near post. Packhorse pressed forward and scored two goals in quick succession from Dave Hancox and a second from Wheatman putting the Pack in control. Dom Chell was once again in sparkling form in goal for Brewers and they had a platform on which to build and it was ironically ex-Pack captain and centre-half Nick Ward who deservedly equalised with a bullet header from another Jordan Hitchen free kick. With the game heading towards stalemate up popped Brewers leading scorer Jake McGarry with six minutes remaining to secure the points for the men in red and remarkably only their second win of the league campaign.
